CAP Space Analysis: Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are coming into 2021 with -13 to 18 million in cap room. Let’s investigate what they could do to alleviate this and the future fantasy implications.

The Raiders are not in a horrible position coming into 2021. They already released Tyrell Williams, which was not unexpected with their young WR corp, and saved $11.6 million. If they make the moves listed above, they can end up with around $33.5 million in cap space.

They really will not see much change on the offensive skill positions likely. But rather they should focus on defensive help and working to get younger on some of the offensive line. They should allow for their younger WRs to have more playing time in 2021.

For those in TE premium or deeper leagues, the emergence of Waller has many forgetting about Foster Moreau. At 23, he could be a potential trade target at the end of next year as he takes over the backup role with the retirement of Witten. He could be acquired cheaply with the idea of him being traded to another team due to Waller’s emergence as one of the best in the league. Mostly likely a 4th in TE premium or 5th in other leagues could secure him if he is not on waivers already.

Their WRs are all young and Bryan Edwards is the one that generated the most buzz based on his metrics last year. His injury slowed him down and the re-emergence of Agholor kept him off the field. With Agholor a FA, he would benefit the most if they did not resign him. Owners may be willing to move him for a 3rd (depending on what they invested in him themselves). If you can get him for this cost, he would be a great low-cost investment that can turn into a WR2 with WR1 upside.

The other forgotten WR would be Hunter Renfrow. You can likely get him for a late 4th or 5th or add on into a trade. He has shown the potential to be a good PPR receiver when used, think of a Cooper Kupp knockoff, but was pushed down the depth chart due to Agholor’s emergence.

The Raiders will also likely look to bring in an RB either in the draft late or in FA to help as currently, they have only Jacobs and Richard. Jacobs still has the potential to be a 3 down back but if they bring in someone with pass-catching skills, like a James White or Dion Lewis, this could be a cheap player to acquire. Like what JD McKissic did in Washington this year, depending on whom they add, this player could provide great value and return for cheap.
