Week 5: Buy/Sell Column

Twitter: @FF_Worm

Week five is officially in the books and it was a wild one. There were plenty of fantasy points scored and while some were expected, many, were not. Which players are for real? And which just had a fluke week? Will the booms come back down to Earth? Will the duds stay down in the dumps? This is the fifth article of the weekly buy and sell series. This series will take a look at some players we should be buying and others we should be selling.

  • Jonnu Smith – TE New England Patriots

It pains me to say this as a Jonnu Smith stan, but he is now a sell candidate. I had high hopes for him coming into this season. Coming to a new team with little offensive weapons and signing a large contract, I thought it was a no-brainer for Smith to have a featured role. I was wrong.

Recording just 15 receptions for 115 yards and one score on the year, Smith trails fellow tight end, Hunter Henry, in every category. Furthermore, while playing the same number of snaps as Henry this past week, Smith ran only eight routes. This is compared to Henry’s 25 routes.

It is evident the usage just isn’t there and the volume will always be lacking on a run-first team with a rookie quarterback. His value is low now, but if you have a chance to sell him for anything of value, I would make that move. Unless some major changes occur, I don’t think it’s Smith’s year.
